Beatriz Tempero is the voyage’s onboard marine biologist and educator. She studied Animal Engineering and Biology at the University of Lisbon, completed an MSc at the University of Algarve on blue shark diving behaviour using satellite tags, has worked at Oceanário de Lisboa since 2018, contributed to Portugal’s second Red List of Marine Fish Species, and now supports biodiversity monitoring using eDNA. During the voyage in the Azores, especially between Terceira, Flores and Corvo, she leads wildlife observation and science-based activities in some of the richest marine waters of the North Atlantic. In August, guests may spot sperm whales, Atlantic spotted dolphins, common dolphins and seabirds, while learning species identification, behaviour and how to assist with sighting logs. Activities include Manta Net sampling to collect plankton, fish larvae, eggs and microplastics from the sea surface, with samples examined onboard; eDNA demonstrations showing how seawater is filtered to detect species; and shore visits to the intertidal zone to observe limpets, sea urchins, anemones, barnacles and rockpool fish while collecting marine litter and discussing ecosystem health. On favourable summer nights, guests may also see bioluminescent plankton glowing in the ship’s bow wave. Evening talks focus on blue sharks in Azorean waters, the use of eDNA in biodiversity surveys, and conservation of Azorean marine ecosystems, including Blue Azores efforts to protect 30% of these waters.

Every cruise is more than a journey - it's memories that last long after you step ashore. Our participants share their stories, emotions and moments that are hard to put into words... but which we try to capture right here.
I thought it would just be a holiday. It was a journey that cleared my soul. Every sunrise on deck reminded me that you can live slower and deeper.
Anna
Norway, tourist cruise
After 30 years I was at the helm again. Watch at four in the morning, shared meals in the mess, cold wind, the crew's laughter - I felt like in the old days. Cruise Tall Ships helped me find a voyage I would never have found on my own.
Marek Kowalski
training cruise in the North Sea
I didn't know anyone when I boarded. After a week I had a family that can't be replaced. It wasn't just a cruise - it was the adventure of a lifetime together.
