Intensive training for future officers of the STS Pogoria tall ship We invite you to a specialized training voyage designed to prepare future officer personnel for the responsible role aboard a sailing ship on a regular voyage. This is a week of intensive learning, practice, and teamwork under the guidance of an experienced crew. During the voyage, participants will not only improve their sailing skills, but will also learn watchkeeping management, decision-making at sea, and working with the crew – in other words, everything that is essential in the role of an officer. The training includes both practical deck work and specialized theoretical classes conducted by four instructors from various fields of sailing and maritime safety. Training program Life and duties of an officer on a tall ship role and responsibilities of the watch officer watch management and building authority within the team cooperation with the professional crew Deck practice setting and furling sails step-by-step sail training tall-ship maneuvers and crew work organization the officer’s role during alarms and emergency situations Specialist training Classes led by four instructors will include, among others: rescue and safety at sea practical navigation logbook keeping communication with ports and VTS services pilotage and the rules of the road sail trim and optimization of rig performance Maneuver training RIB handling and work during port maneuvers organization of deck work “below deck,” in other words, everything the officer must oversee beyond sailing itself One of the special moments of the voyage will be a lecture with Captain Maciej Leśny, who will talk about: the history of the STS Pogoria tall ship, behind the scenes of commanding a large tall ship, the responsibilities and challenges of a captain at sea.
