Who is the free-berth voyage for: - For people aged 15 and over. - For both those who want to learn the basics of sailing and experienced sailors. - For travel enthusiasts seeking unique experiences. No sailing experience is required. We encourage group bookings. Voyage characteristics: A free-berth voyage usually lasts 7 or 10 days (special voyages may differ in duration). Participants are expected to serve as sailors, forming an active part of the crew and their watch, to which they will be assigned. Our tall ships have a tradition of training vessels, dedicated to maritime education. The guiding principle is: safety first (SAFETY FIRST), which makes sailing one of the safest sports, despite climbing the masts and yards. The crew is divided into three watches. On STS Fryderyk Chopin, the watches consist of about 12 people. Depending on whether the ship is underway, alongside, or at anchor, different tasks await the watches. These duties include: navigation, working the sails, maneuvering drills, work in the galley (the ship’s kitchen), and keeping watch over the mooring and anchoring of the tall ship. Everything takes place under the supervision of experienced staff and with the support of instructors belonging to the so-called core crew. Voyages on tall ships can be physically and mentally demanding for participants. Nevertheless, we know that sailing is one of the most valuable forms of leisure, and a voyage on a tall ship is a unique experience and adventure unlike any other. Sailing is a skill that can be developed throughout one’s entire life, and every voyage is unique. In addition to sailing skills, crew members improve in areas such as teamwork, decision-making, and responsibility for others. Voyage route: The planned route will be provided on the day the voyage begins and will depend on weather conditions and the captain’s decision. The ship’s permanent crew will make every effort to ensure that the places visited are as attractive as possible. Only the embarkation and disembarkation ports remain unchanged. Olbia
