Who is the open-crew voyage for: - For people aged 15 and over. - For both those who want to learn the basics of sailing and experienced sailors. - For travel enthusiasts looking for unique experiences. No sailing experience is required. We encourage group bookings. Nature of the voyage: An open-crew voyage usually lasts 7 or 10 days (the duration of special voyages may vary). Participants are expected to serve as sailors, forming an active part of the crew and their watch, to which they will be assigned. Our tall ships have the tradition of training vessels used for maritime education. The guiding principle is: safety first (SAFETY FIRST), which makes sailing one of the safest sports, despite climbing the masts and yards. The crew is divided into three watches. On STS Fryderyk Chopin, the watches consist of about 12 people. Depending on whether the ship is underway, alongside, or at anchor, different tasks await the watches. These include duties such as navigation, work on the sails, maneuvering drills, galley work (the ship’s kitchen), and standing watch over the berthed and anchored tall ship. Everything takes place under the supervision of experienced staff and with the support of instructors belonging to the so-called skeleton crew. Voyages on tall ships can be physically and mentally demanding for participants. Nevertheless, we know that sailing is one of the most rewarding ways to spend free time, and a voyage on a tall ship is an experience and adventure like no other. Sailing is a skill that can be developed throughout a lifetime, and every voyage is unique. In addition to sailing skills, crew members develop in areas such as teamwork, decision-making, and responsibility for others. Route of the voyage: The planned route will be announced on the day the voyage begins and will depend on weather conditions and the captain’s decision. The permanent crew of the ship will make every effort to ensure that the places visited are as attractive as possible. Only the embarkation and disembarkation ports remain unchanged. Malaga
