U.S. Brig Niagara is a historically accurate reconstruction of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry's relief flagship from the 1813 Battle of Lake Erie, a decisive War of 1812 victory. Built at Erie in 1988 (the fourth reconstruction on this ship's lineage, incorporating some original 1813 timbers), she first sailed in 1992 and has operated nearly continuously since. Owned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and operated by the Flagship Niagara League, she's homeported at the Erie Maritime Museum, offering sail training, dockside tours, and educational voyages that preserve traditional square-rig seamanship. Trainees sleep in hammocks for an authentic period experience. She recently completed a multi-year, multi-million-dollar refit and returned home to Erie in 2026.
