Albanus
Albanus is a galeas - a traditional two-masted Åland schooner - built in 1988 as a faithful replica of the 1904 original by master shipwright Johan August Henriksson. Between the 1850s and 1920s, over 300 such vessels were built in the Åland Islands to carry firewood, farm goods, and fish to Baltic ports like Stockholm, Helsinki, and Turku, but none of the originals survived; Albanus was built specifically to preserve that shipbuilding tradition. Owned and operated by the non-profit Skeppsföreningen Albanus, she's based in Mariehamn and sails youth, cultural, and member programs around the Baltic, alongside a children's onboard reading program and full-ship charters. She's a regular competitor in the Tall Ships' Races.
