A.J. Meerwald
A.J. Meerwald is a wooden gaff-rigged schooner built in 1928 in Dorchester, New Jersey, originally used for Delaware Bay oyster dredging. After decades of work — including wartime Coast Guard service — she fell into disrepair before being restored in the 1990s and named New Jersey's official tall ship in 1998. She now sails from the Bayshore Center at Bivalve, running public sails, charters, and educational programs across the Delaware Bay and nearby coastlines, with guests welcome to help hoist sails or just enjoy the ride. Her deck also hosts weddings and private events. One of the last surviving Delaware Bay oyster schooners still under sail.
